Most CEDH people i know refer to the 4-colour combos as "Sans-colour", like "Sans-G" or "Sans-R". If you dont speak French or just don't recognise this, Sans means without, and this is basically just saying "all colours but green" or "all colours but red".
Hey Jake, really good take on the vintage cube drama. As i was watching live i couldnt believe 2 guys from the same family got the spots. Now it makes a bit of sense. And i loved the tip about lights when filming cards. My friends and i play with webcams sometimes, and this helped me re-do the setup.
Actionable advice! Something I rarely deliver on 😂
I've had several people message me today with more corroboration of the story, but I think I tried to make as balanced a case as I could. Interesting stuff and I hope that MTGO brings the event back with some tweaks.
This seems a bit outrageous. Juju is insane at magic. If he wants, and is good enough, to qualify for his brother and his dad that seems like his prerogative. My brother was helping me during my 64 mans (that I didn’t win) and I didn’t feel shady about it at all. LSV posted a video of him playing the first couple of levels with BK. I assume that he wouldn’t be doing that if he felt it was shady. The only part that seems sketch is drafting 2 decks in the same pod in order to have extra information not available to the others at the table but your story seems to indicate that there is no evidence of that. A 73% win rate is insane. Very few players could accomplish that. Juju obviously can. While I have no idea if he did cheat, I believe it’s at least possible he could qualify 3 times without doing so. Also, his dad seems cool as shit. A millionaire helping his kids win some magic cards that he doesn’t care about shows an appreciation for their interests beyond what a lot of us will ever experience. The “oh, neat” response to the ragavan trigger is an all-timer. Rexjak is a legend.
I agree that helping friends and family firmly falls under option #2. Playing an account as your friends and family is option #1.
If you believe that Dr. Jakobovits took the time to grind these events with a little help from his kids, then that's #2. If you believe, as someone who played against his account in the top 8 commented above does that it was not Rex playing, that's flat out cheating.
While there isn't direct evidence that same pod play happened, this was independently told to me by enough sources that I deemed it worth printing. There were other stories that did not rise to that level that would appear more damning.
I guess what I would like everyone to understand is that these were things told to me, by multiple people, who I cannot reasonably believe would have A) any incentive to do so or B) know each other well enough to be working together.
Julian allegedly told too many people about what he did. That would be the sort of hubris I would associate with behavior like trying to scam a bunch of entries into a massive tournament.
And you're absolutely right, a buddy and I agreed on Discord yesterday that "oh, neat" is legendary and will be saying that often in games from here on out.
Maybe I misunderstood. “Mtgo should be able to tell” led me to believe that we could not. I definitely have no idea what happened, not even sure why I commented. I think I just liked the idea that his dad took 10 hours out of his busy schedule to play some magic with him cuz that sounds pretty sweet in a world that often isn’t and the fact that he flew to Vegas seemed to be an indicator that’s not outside the realm of possibility.
That would be super heartwarming! I just don't believe, given the preponderance of evidence here, that's the case. Circumstantial or not. People are completely free to believe otherwise. I can't say for sure.
as the person that lost to rex in the finals of the top 8, it was not the same person who played in the live event. 0% chance.
Interesting, how so?
Played extremely quickly online, made very good plays, didn't stop to read any cards etc. Not remotely how he played in person.
I was guessing play speed was it. Definitely not spending 30 seconds reading Chandra.
Thrilled to see the Wildebeasts. I still have my very first Legacy deck (type 1.5 at the time) that ran 4x and a bunch of spike feeders and weavers
I believe you literally recommended them!

I'm in. I'm so in.
